Meet the Group

The Group included members of Marden History Group, winners of Family History Magazine's Archive of the Year for 2010, and others from Marden and the surrounding area.

Members of the group were Richard Adam, Catherine Alderson, Tom Burnham, Eunice Doswell, Diane Fisher, Patricia Foskett, Vince Green, Patricia Maynard, John Oakley, Anita Thompson and Graham Tippen.

Group members are pictured here with Laura Gardner (Parliamentary Archives) on their visit to the Houses of Parliament.  Group members not pictured are Richard Adam and Graham Tippen.

In order to investigate the impact of the South Eastern Railway on their community, they carried out research using records held by Kent History and Library Centre, Marden Heritage Centre and Parliamentary Archives.  They worked in three groups to look at the effect of the railway in three areas: people, economy and landscape.

The group concluded the project with a trip to the Houses of Parliament, where they had a tour and a chance to consult records held by the Parliamentary Archives.
