A Special Meeting of the Trustees of the Brandbridges Road held at the Rose and Crown at Brandbridges on Monday 29th day of February 1836 persuant to a requisition signed by three Trustees of the said Road.
Present: The Rev. Richard Warde, in the Chair
Mr E Monckton, Mr Golding, Mr T Boorman, Mr Woodbridge
The Trustees having taken into consideration the projected South Eastern Railway and the points at which it would intersect the two branches of this Road to Matfield Green and Pembury, and heard the statement of the Engineer to that undertaking by which it appears that the Road at the points of intersection would require to be sunk ten and fourteen feet respectively below the present level and being of the opinion that it would be prejudicial to the Trust in as much as there would be a great difficulty getting out of the water if the road were sunk as proposed and that in the time of heavy rain and floods the roads at those points would be impassable and also being of the opinion that if carried into execution, the railway would injure the Tolls of the Trust. It was resolved to dissent to the proposed measure and that the clerk should communicate such dissent to Messrs Clutton and Teason, the Solicitors of the Company.
