The Sayer Family
Our researchers found a number of people who had come to Marden from elsewhere, perhaps drawn to the village because of the proximity of the railway and the ease of travel.
The Sayer Family is a good example, found by our researchers in the 1901 census. They were living at 2 Linton View. The father of the family, Thomas Sayer, was a pensioner of the General Post Office.
Both Thomas and his wife Annie had been born in Ashford, Kent, and they had at least four daughters, all born in London. Perhaps it was because of the South Eastern Railway that this family had been able to retire to a rural village, while still remaining in easy reach of London, their home for many years.
